The biggest responsibility of a married woman with three children is to look after her kids, keep the house in order and support her husband in his social and professional life.

Nurhayat, the lead character, is a typical housewife who has done just this throughout her 18 years of married life. What’s more, after finding out she was pregnant, she dropped out of university to devote her entire time to her kids and home life. To begin with, Nurhayat is quietly resigned to the other women that blow in and out of her husband’s life, but in the end she can take it no longer, walks out and begins the struggle to stand on her own two feet. However, because she dropped out of university she has no profession. In fact, she lacks any qualifications that will make her money having been nothing but a housewife.

All the same, pride won’t allow her to accept any financial support from her family or husband. She tries out a string of jobs. And in the end she makes the best of her experience as a housewife to set up a catering business. This is the story of a woman who manages to make a life for herself with three children, of the battle she takes on, holding her head high. By the time she has proved her ability to stand on her own two feet, she runs into Tevfik, who, like her, is trying to begin a new life with his two daughters. The two set up in business and develop a relationship. Together they overcome a series of financial and emotional problems.

Tevfik grew up an orphan and, as a student, married a wealthy woman desperate for love. When his wife tried to make him pay for the life of luxury she provided, their romance gradually faded leading in the end to divorce. But after seeing his relationship with Nurhayat, Tevfik’s ex-wife Zerrin devises various schemes to try and get her husband back. She even goes as far as using their children and her money against him.

At first Nurhayat and her three children are hurt materially and emotionally by marriage problems and a relationship that is not working. But despite the difficulties she encounters, Nurhayat remains permanently cheerful and never once gives up on life. She then stumbles across a guy who has been as brave as her in starting a new life from scratch. And she has the courage to begin a relationship all over again.

Here is the story of two exes, of the problems created by their five children of different ages, of people who keep smiling through the battle to keep their heads above water.

‘Ties That Bind’ tells the story of people who have laboured for life and love; people who have never failed to keep up their hopes and remained dedicated to life however bad the times are.
